As one of the first communities to join the Foundation for Jewish Camp’s One Happy Camper program, our community with the support of lead donor, the Neubauer Family Foundation, provides either a $700 or $1,000 incentive grant for first-time campers to experience (and hopefully fall in love with) with an overnight camp experience that’s right for them.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia offers need-based scholarships that cover between 10% and 30% of the cost of camp, working to ensure that camp remains a viable option for families of all financial backgrounds
There are close to two hundred Jewish overnight camping options that campers can pick from with six major camps located right in Philadelphia’s backyard, only 1 to 3 hours away: Camp Galil, Pinemere Camp, Golden Slipper Camp, Camp Ramah in the Poconos, URJ Camp Harlam, and Camp JRF. Each one offers campers a unique experience based on its environment, Jewish programming, and size. “Jewish camp” is anything but a monolithic term and lest one have the idea that Jewish camp connotes hours of studying the Torah or daily Hebrew lessons, this could not be further from the truth.
There’s swimming, sports, arts and crafts, singing, and campfires. Everything you’d expect from a fun and enriching summer experience. And if your child has specific interests, there are now even “speciality camps” located across the country that focus on everything from science and technology to the arts, all with a Jewish focus.
And kids don’t need to go to overnight camp to have an impactful and fun summer experience. In the Philadelphia area alone are 8 day camps with a variety of programs to suit children at almost every age, pre-K through teens.
For all of these summer experience, Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia offers need-based scholarships that cover between 10% and 30% of the cost of camp, working to ensure that camp remains a viable option for families of all financial backgrounds. CAMP FACILITIES: The camp is housed in the Main Building with Air Conditioned Rooms and Dining Hall. We have 13 full fields, a state of the art 4-Bay Field House with opportunities for indoor play during inclement weather. There is an Olympic size Swimming Pool along with 24 hour security.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The camp has been running for 35 years as Holly Shores Field Hockey Academy. The camp has new owners who are extremely excited to bring you the best of both field hockey and sports performance training. We are the only Field Hockey camp to offer top notch sports specific training to create more dynamic and xplosive athletes. Our field hockey portion of the camp is run by Lauren Pfeiffer, US National Team Member and incorporates the most current techniques in the sport.
Each athlete will learn injury prevention techniques and strategies to utilize during the season. Teams and Individuals are welcomed to sign up and experience first hand what it means to be an XPLOSIVE athlete. We will have Dr. Cohen, podiatrist for many professional Philadelphia sports teams, on hand to assist with lower extremity injury prevention. We also have a nutritionist who will be on hand to give information to our athletes about the best fuel for your body during the season, before games and after game recovery.

Equine Adventure Camp Level 1
This week long day camp is a “stand out!” It is theme based, and full of surprises! From “Survivor” to Renaissance” to the “Olympics” to “Down Under Horse Camp”, the campers never know what their counselors have in store for them. Campers enjoy horseback riding lessons, crafts, swimming, games, trail rides and team challenges each day. Instruction is geared to meet the needs of beginner riders. Skills are taught in both disciplines of western and English riding. In addition to fun on horseback, Wednesday night offers an overnight camp out for all campers. The night is packed with special activities which are always a well -kept secret, but always fun and exciting. On Friday, the last day of camp, friends and families are invited to see the campers perform their skills in a horse show.

Equine Adventure Camp Level 2
This day camp offers the same excitement as our Level 1 Camp, however, Level 2 camp is geared to riders of intermediate ability. Campers need to be proficient at all three gaits of walk, trot, and canter, riding with control. Instruction will include both Western and English riding. As with our Level 1 camp, this camp includes many other activities such as swimming, crafts, games, trail rides and daily challenges. The famous overnight camp out on Wednesday is also included in this camp. It is a complete package of fun and learning in an energetic environment!

This day camp caters to little people! Campers are those who are not quite ready to join the rigors of our Equine Adventure Camps, but our days are packed with excitement and filled with riding, crafts, swimming and fun, fun, fun! CAMP FACILITIES: Mt. Gilead has 16 buildings available for overnight lodging. Ranging from full sized lodges to small 8 person cabins, options are available for any sized group. Whether it’s a family ski weekend at Camelback Ski Mountain, group retreat or a staff getaway; we keep our rental prices affordable so everyone can afford a visit to the Poconos.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Mt. Gilead offers an atmosphere of relaxed fun and fellowship and the opportunity to experience God right in the middle of his creation without the distractions of technology and everyday life.
Campers are grouped in divisions according to their completed grade. Girls spend time interacting with their cabin group, divisional group, and the entire camp population at different times throughout the week.
Adventurers are completing grades 2 through 4.
Searchers are completing grades 5 and 6.
Observers are completing grades 7 and 8
Conquerors have completed grades 9 through 11.
A week at Mt. Gilead starts on Sunday and ends on Saturday, for campers staying more than 1 week, we offer the option of a stay over program. This program allows campers to stay at camp over the weekend where they will be cared for by our weekend staff. Parents are welcome to visit during this time and can take their camper out of camp for several hours (to eat, do laundry, etc.).
CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Young ladies in 9th, 10th, or 11th grade are eligible to enroll in CILT I. During the school year, CILTs are working on requirements, reading books, developing a resource file, and preparing for the busy summer ahead. Once CILTs arrive at camp, they will prepare to embark on a trip that will change their lives forever. CILTs, their instructor, and other qualified personnel will leave for a week long outdoor living experience, typically backpacking and/or canoeing.
CILTs will experience first hand God’s awesome creation and learn important lessons in teamwork and communication. Once the CILTs return to camp their second week of training consists of working with a cabin, leading activities, songfests, service hours, Bible study and CILT class.
CILT II
There is no break! (Who wants one anyway?!) The CILTs are anxious to continue their training and get started on their second year requirements.
CILT II begins as soon as CILT I ends. CILTs are given their second year books to read, their extensive list of requirements, and with their new network of fellow CILTs, instructor and their mentor, they are ready to begin. One of the most unique features of our CILT II program is the use of a mentor. Each CILT chooses a mentor. Someone who will pray with them, guide, encourage, challenge and keep the CILT accountable throughout the year. The mentor and CILT will share thoughts and ideas on Bible Study methods by Rick Warren. Then the summer begins with three weeks of training.
CILT II participants are required to attend our staff training week, otherwise known as Pre-Camp. During this week, CILTs will have the opportunity to see the workings behind camp, as friendships develop, activities are planned, staff is trained and duties are assigned. They will also have the opportunity to earn certifications in Lifeguarding, CPR, First Aid, and AED. The second week of CILT is filled with training in their areas of specialty, Bible study, CILT classes, and camp service hours. Finally, the third week of training arrives when CILTs get to put all their knowledge into practice when they live-in with a cabin for a full week under the supervision of another counselor. Upon successful completion of all the requirements CILTs will have a graduation ceremony and are welcomed onto our staff!

CAMP FACILITIES: Conshatawba is a Resident Camp that specializes in The Arts and Adventure. We have a ceramics and pottery program, arts and craft building, theater stage,pool, climbing rock wall and zip line, low ropes course, archery field and numerous sports fields. Conshatawba has beautiful lodges, platform tents, and cabins for lodging.Girls attend themed weeks of camp throughout the summer with this year's most popular sessions being a Percy Jackson session and a Hunger Games themed session. They include a dining hall and kitchen, craft house, boat house, medical facility, and eight of the fourteen camper cabins. The oldest building in camp is our historic Lodge, used for shows and group gatherings. The 200 acre natural lake provides a beautiful and functional setting for all our aquatic activities. Camp also includes a climbing wall, tennis courts, a volleyball court, field, archery range, campcraft area, nature/ecology area, and a 500 acre preserved area used for hiking and mountain biking.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Our aquatic program is extensive, taking advantage of our location on a beautiful, 200 acre, natural, mountain lake. Water skiing, swimming, canoeing, sailing, kayaking, water trampoline, and more occur on the lake. 80-90% of our staff, on average, are trained in Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR and First Aid. Our boat drivers are required to have a Pennsylvania boating safety license and are screened in our boats.
Older campers may take whitewater canoe trips on the Delaware River and/or a four-day lake canoeing trip to the Adirondacks. Other trips include hiking on the Appalachian Trail, Loyalsock Trail (World's End State Park), Rickett's Glen State Park, Hickory Run State Park, and local trips to the blueberry farm, mill pond, and a local camping spot.
